Wenn der Horizont weiter wird, bleibt auch Malerei nicht verborgen. Die Sichtbarkeit ist zu groß, und überhaupt ist nicht die Zeit, um das Bild zur Welt zu erweitern. Stefanie Winter bringt Bild und Welt für Momente wieder ins Gleichgewicht: Was sichtbar ist, wird auch greifbar. Farbige Satinbänder bilden dekorative Schleifen, aber sie transportieren doch Botschaften, die kein Ornament sind. Farbschichten kleiden einen Bildkörper, aber sie dringen in seine Poren nicht ein. Leinwand tritt als Fläche zurück, aber auch als Wölbung hervor. Am Ende geht es doch nicht um Band, Folie oder Kissen. So wenig wie Welt nur außen ist oder nur innen, ist Malerei nur eine Oberfläche oder nur ein bestimmtes Ding. Sie tritt optisch, aber auch haptisch hervor. In den Werken von Stefanie Winter wird das zur Form, was Buchstaben immer verbergen.

When the horizon becomes wider, painting does not remain hidden either. Visibility is too great, and there is no time at all to expand the picture into the world. Stefanie Winter brings image and world back into balance for a few moments: what is visible also becomes tangible. Coloured satin ribbons form decorative bows, but they convey messages that are not ornamental. Layers of colour clothe a pictorial body, but they do not penetrate its pores. Canvas recedes as a surface, but also emerges as a curvature. In the end, it is not about ribbon, foil or cushion. Just as the world is not just outside or just inside, painting is not just a surface or just a certain thing. It emerges visually, but also haptically. In Stefanie Winter’s works, what letters always conceal becomes form.
